Working in the field of clinical research studies is rewarding [...]

Working in the field of clinical research studies is rewarding on both the scientific and humanistic side of the world. I find it a rewarding challenge to help the scientific community when we are able to advance medical achievement. But, because I am more a humanist than anything else within this world, I feel a connection to people who come to us for help with their condition, disease, or illness. In some cases, these patients are not finding the physical or mental salvation they hope to find through their current medications and or treatments. They’ve been diagnosed, but they are also hoping to not only find help for themselves but they truly want to be part of something larger. They want to help find a cure or treatment for everyone else in the same situation.

Helping convey the message that clinical research trials are safe is what my primary objective is here at Avail Clinical Research. We are here to help and do it in a way that is safe. We design our research studies to test the safety and efficacy of treatments for humans, and in order to do that clinical research studies are divided into four phases:

PHASE I TRIALS: Initial studies to determine the metabolism and pharmacologic actions of drugs in humans, the side effects associated with increasing doses, and to gain early evidence of effectiveness; may include healthy participants and/or patients.

PHASE II TRIALS: Controlled clinical studies conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of the drug for a particular indication or indications in patients with the disease or condition under study and to determine the common short-term side effects and risks.

PHASE III TRIALS: Expanded controlled and uncontrolled trials after preliminary evidence suggesting effectiveness of the drug has been obtained, and are intended to gather additional information to evaluate the overall benefit-risk relationship of the drug and provide an adequate basis for physician labeling.

PHASE IV TRIALS: Post-marketing studies to delineate additional information including the drug’s risks, benefits, and optimal use.

We’ve recently been conducting clinical research trials for tobacco consumers, and we are searching for candidates who are not wanting to quit using products like SNUS, chew and dip. This is just one of the research studies we’ve been working on here in DeLand, Florida. Some of our investigational treatments have shown promising results, but there is a need to do additional research studies to test investigational methods that may help us understand your condition.

DeLand, Florida— March 10, 2010 — Avail Clinical Research, a privately owned research facility, founded in 1998 in DeLand, Florida, announces the launch of several tobacco consumers clinical trials to test investigational treatment options for those who use SNUS, chew, or dip and have no intention of quitting. “We are very pleased to begin the systemic evaluation of our research studies regarding tobacco consumers and their strong desires to us these types of tobacco products,” said Bruce G. Rankin, DO, CPI., the Vice Chief of Medicine at Florida Hospital DeLand. “We believe that these research studies will build significantly on the data generated by other studies conducted on tobacco consumers.” Dr. Rankin has been conducting research with Avail Clinical Research since 1999 and is currently the Medical Director.

The research studies will enroll those who are current tobacco users, and in order to participate in the studies volunteers must be users of SNUS (pronounced – ’snooze’), chew, or dip. In addition they should have the no desire to quit using either of these products.

Avail Clinical Research will provide participants with study related care, including physical examinations, laboratory services and study medications. Participants will also be compensated for time and travel. For more information regarding participation in our clinical trials, contact Avail Clinical Research at 386.310.1334, or at www.AvailClinical.com.
